Monthly livestock news for Dawes County and the Northern Panhandle

Northern Panhandle Beef and Range Education Team

A team of educators implement the livestock, natural resource and agriculture education programs in the northern Panhandle Counties of Sioux, Dawes, Sheridan and Box Butte Counties as well as serving producers in adjacent areas of Wyoming and South Dakota. Scott Cotton (Livestock, Range & Youth), Cindy Tusler (Range and Youth), and Jenny Nixon (Technology, Range and Youth) work together to deliver "system-based" educational programs that reflect the demographics and challenges of the very northwestern corner of Nebraska. These programs include:

  • Cow-Calf Production (Scott Cotton with assistance from Cindy)
  • Range Monitoring & Management (Cindy Tusler with assistance from Scott and Jenny)
  • Carbon Credits for Ranching (Scott and Cindy)
  • Agriculture Disaster Preparedness and Bio-Security (Scott)
  • Livestock Records and Accounting (Scott and Jenny)
  • Value-Added Agriculture (Jenny and Scott)
  • Beef Nutrition (Scott and Cindy)
  • Minimizing Livestock Poisoning (Scott)
  • Alternative Forage Crops (Scott)
  • My Ranch, My Business - Beef Business Course (District Team)
  • Multi-Species Grazing & Monitoring (Scott and NGLC)
  • Agriculture and Natural Resource Policy (Scott)
  • "E" Agriculture and "E" Business (computer based) (Jenny)

In our files section you will find a number of fact sheets that are informative about issues within our area and several Excel programs which will aid livestock producers in making decisions each year as well as generating records.
